Carrie’s Project 365 Blog

A photo a day, for an entire year

Someone left their Drumstick lollypop on the sidewalk in the rain last night.  Spotted it on the way home from the shops this morning.

This is a two way road in Clifton in Bristol.  I’m not sure if you can tell, but there is definitely not room for two cars to pass.  Nor is there anywhere to pull over to let anyone pass you.  If you meet head on, one of you has to reverse the whole way down the street.  If you meet someone head on and you have cars behind you…yuck.  I’m glad I don’t drive here and I must applaud my friend, Liz’s, driving skills in these neighborhoods.

It seems that someone out there feels my blog misrepresents my neighborhood as a “recreational wonderland” when, in fact, I live right on the edge of a rather large council estate that butts up to an industrial estate.  Apparently, she feels that having visited my home before gives her the knowledge needed to make such sweeping judgements.  :P

Unfortunately, I must confess that she is right.  I don’t live in a recreational wonderland, though most of my photos seems to be showing lovely greenery and happy farm animals.  To be fair, I do walk through the green stuff every day and those animals really do live near my house.   But, you have to remember that the farm where Weston runs every day is an old garbage dump.  And those cows live right on the industrial estate.  You’ve seen pictures of my street before, so here’s the view out my front window.  It’s pretty darn ugly where I live, so I try to show you the pretty stuff.  Makes me pay more attention to it as well.

Look at the recreational wonderland we call home!

Does anyone know what these are?  They’re white lumps that were growing on (out of?) the branches of the oak trees in the park.  Are they oak galls?  And just what is an oak gall, anyway?

Boing!

The death of a fly.  I saw this web glinting in the sun during our dog walk this morning and left the path to go take a look.  When I got over there the spider was on top of the fly.  I guess I scared him off for a couple of minutes.  (Sorry about all the close ups lately, but I’ve been taking pictures of the interesting things I see and they tend to be tiny.)

Lilacs in the garden. Too bad you can’t smell them.

Day 100!!!!

A tiny tadpole on a lily pad.  He jumped up there because I stuck my finger in the water and it scared him.  I wanted to retake the shot without my shadow in it, but he was too quick and jumped back off.  There are hundreds of tadpoles in the lagoon right now.

A little bug-love on a peony.
