Day 137 June 12, 2008
This dog always scares the living daylights out of me. He launches himself against his fence and barks quite ferociously. For some reason he quieted down for his portrait.

Back to pretending I live in the country. Here are my industrial estate cows again - this day, they ran away when I started snapping pictures.

The death of a fly. I saw this web glinting in the sun during our dog walk this morning and left the path to go take a look. When I got over there the spider was on top of the fly. I guess I scared him off for a couple of minutes. (Sorry about all the close ups lately, but I’ve been taking pictures of the interesting things I see and they tend to be tiny.)

Day 100!!!!
A tiny tadpole on a lily pad. He jumped up there because I stuck my finger in the water and it scared him. I wanted to retake the shot without my shadow in it, but he was too quick and jumped back off. There are hundreds of tadpoles in the lagoon right now.

There’s a farm in the park near our house, where we walk Weston. They breed pigs each spring and each winter the pigs “disappear”. These are the not so little piglets. They’re still in with their mother, but should be moving to the big pen soon.

We live near the only allotments in the whole city that allow animals. Most people just have chickens (or cockerels/roosters) , but these guys have a goat. There are a couple of horses back there, as well. Allotments are a pretty interesting concept and I wonder why you don’t see them so much in US cities. Probably because a lot of people in most cities have at least a small yard of their own where they could grow vegetables. Oh well.

We walked down to the river this morning and fed the birds in the lagoon. I think this swan may have lost its mate. Or maybe this is the male and female is stuck sitting on a nest in the reeds. I hope so, because I think swans mate for life and it would be sad to think he’s alone forever now.

Yet another sign of spring. Does anyone know if bees take a little time between becoming bees and being able to fly properly? We have one or two each day that seem grounded in our lawn - I was wondering if they’re “newborns”.
